Mayfield Single Sword - Foundation Course
Dates & Times: Monday evenings from April 1st 23rd - May 13th 2024
I will have two groups running this time, please let me know which one your interested in when you book. (Both are the same level and course, due to the high demand I am now running two on the same evening).

Venue: Colkins Mill Church, Mayfield.
Info: This course will give you the fundamental skills you need to safely and effectively perform dramatic combat with a single sword (long thin blades with a swept cup hilt - think Romeo & Juliet, The Musketeers, Pirates of the Caribbean). The focus is on looking after your partner, while creating the illusion that you are trying to kill each other with the pointy end.
Fight scenes are some of the most exhilarating moments in a theatrical piece – for the audience and the performer. However, without adequate training they can also be genuinely scary moments in a piece – again, for the audience, and most definitely for the performer.
Professional training is vital to give you the freedom to do your job as an actor: tell a story, keep the character journey moving, engage the audience, and keep everyone safe. And let’s be honest, stage
combat training is just a huge amount of fun, whether you intend to use it for work, as a hobby or for physical training.
During this course you will be taken through safety principles, stage combat illusions, physical form, efficient movement, historical context, acting technique, theatrical protocols – everything you
need approach the work with confidence and inject it with excitement and dramatic intent. Week 7 culminates in an exam with the Academy of Performance Combat - one of the leading sword fighting training and examining boards in the UK. For those of you excited by qualifications it's an industry recognised standard, for those of you who are nervous about exams it's very relaxed, friendly, and is your chance to live out your dreams as a swashbuckling adventurer.

Mayfield Longsword - Foundation Course - SOLD OUT
Dates & Times: Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm - 8.30pm from March 26th - May 7th 2024
Venue: Colkins Mill Church, Mayfield & another TBC but will be in a village near Mayfield.

London New Year Bash
Dates & Times: Saturday 13th January 2024
Venue: Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, London, SE15 5JT
Info: This is a full-day workshop where you will explore a range of different fighting styles seen on stage and screen. From slapstick to horror, comedy to interrogation, Barbie to Oppenheim, you will learn how to bring out the flavours and highlights of each genre while maintaining safe stage combat technique. This is a chance to really exercise your creative performance skills while you balance technical accuracy and physical flair.
Not all fights are made for action figures in action movies. The style of fighting and physical choices we make for our characters should fit in with the genre of the piece. It is the mark of a good actor to embody the physicality of your character and make movement choices truthful to the story – it is an incredible actor who can do this while performing fight choreography.
This workshop will show you easy, effective and reliable ways to make physical choices so you flatter the world you’re working in and give us believable and impactful action. By the end of the day you will have the tools to switch styles with ease. You will increase your castability as a versatile performer. And, well yes, you’ll have an incredible amount of fun.
